ANSWERS:

1. The GREEN CARD is an extention of a Car Insurance Policy, covering damages occurred outside your home country. Each Insurance Company has stipulated agreements with the foreign Governments on this matter. Before starting your journey, check that your Insurance Policy covers the country/countries you are going to visit during your holidays. If it is not so, when you arrive at the Port of Ancona, you can buy a supplement at the Exchange Desk located inside Ancona Ferries Terminal.

2. If the vehicle is registered to a private individual different from the driver (or to a firm), the driver will have to show a proxy signed by the owner of the car (or by the propietor of the firm) allowing him/her to take the vehicle abroad.
The proxy must be countersigned by a public officer.

Note: the above described is what the Italian Regulation requires. We suggest you to check your home country regulation before starting your journey.

3. A hire car will be accepted on the ferries only if the Rental Agreement stipulated includes the Authorization to Expatriation.

Note: the above described is what the Italian Regulation requires. We suggest you to check your home country regulation before starting your journey.

4. It depends on the destination you have chosen to reach from the Port of Ancona:
Greece – Identity Card: the control at the Police Desk is not compulsory
Croatia and Bosnia – these countries are not members of the European Community, therefore the passport should be required, but thanks to agreements made between the Italian and both the Croatian and Bosnian Governments, aimed to facilitate the exchanges between these countries, you will be allowed to pass the Police control showing your Identity Card.
Other countries – it is compulsory that you show your Passport at the Police Desk located in Ancona Ferries Terminal

It is also very important that you check the validity of your papers before starting your journey, because all those passengers with expired identification documents or devoid of any papers will be stopped and prevented from boarding.
No exceptions are made for stolen or lost papers. You will be able to regularly report it to the Police, but you won’t be allowed to leave the country.

Note: the above described is what the Italian Regulation requires for Italian citizens. We suggest you to check your home country regulation before starting your journey.

5. The identification document required for minors, is an Identity Certificate released by the Home City Council and countersigned by the Local Police Department, certifying that the parents agree to the expatriation of the minor. The certificate must also indicate the names of the adult companion/s.
Minors from 14 years of age onwards, are allowed to travel alone, however, only with their parents’ authorisation.
Otherwise, until the age of 16, a minor can be registered on an adult companion’s passport (being his/her parent or other adult). From 16 years of age onwards the minor can have his/her own personal passport.

Note: the above described is what the Italian Regulation requires for Italian citizens. We suggest you to check your home country regulation before starting your journey.

6. The International Regulation of the Highway Code does require that any vehicle travelling to a foreign country must be recognisable by means of a sticker indicating its nationality. The owner of a vehicle devoid of such identification will be liable to a fine.

7. If the electronic device shows an evident condition of wear and tear, you don’t need to report it to Customs. This kind of control is made very seldom on passengers leaving from the Port of Ancona, especially in the case of European Citizens. However, in case the electronic device is brand-new and you don’t want to run any risks, you can visit the Customs office located near Varco da Chio and sign a declaration.

8. The right to acquire Tax Refund is limited to non-European citizens non-resident in Italy, who are going to board from the Port of Ancona heading to a non-European destination.
The minimum purchase amount refundable is € 180.76 (equivalent to 350.000 Liras, the old Italian currency).
Those passengers who are interested in requesting a Tax Refund, will have to visit the Customs Office located at Varco da Chio, and will have to show the following:
- Identification document
- Purchase invoice, made out in the name of the person requiring the refund (Please note: the same name that is listed on the Identification document), indicating Art. 38/4 merce destinata all’esportazione “.
- Purchased goods - the object of the refund
The above, are essential requirements. However, we would like to remind you that the Tax Refund will only be acquired at the last European Customs visited. Therefore, if you intend to leave Ancona by a means of transport different from the ferry (i.e. train or plane) you cannot acquire the Refund at the Port Customs Office (if you leave by train at the Central Train Station, or if you fly out of Ancona via the airport).

9. All the Maritime companies sailing from Ancona, accept vehicles supplied with LPG but only with empty tanks, because it is considered a dangerous gas. Some companies even require a certificate named GAS FREE, stating that the tank has been completely emptied. If you get to Ancona and you are asked for this certificate, you can refer to Capitaneria di Porto: they will give you all the necessary information on how to obtain it.

10. Domestic animals do not pay for the voyage on most (but not all) of the ferries leaving from Ancona. Small domestic animals can travel with their owner, and are therefore allowed into the ships common rooms, on condition that they are kept in proper portable cages.
Medium and large domestic animals will have to be muzzled and leashed. They won’t be allowed into the ships common rooms, and will travel in cages. (Most ferries are equipped with such cages, which can be located on the roof or in the garage.)
Most companies will require an International Certificate of Vaccination, and food will have to be provided by the animals’ owner.
These are general terms, and we suggest you to inform the agencies upon booking that you will be travelling with animals; this will avoid disappointment.

For non-domestic animals the matter is much more complicated, in most cases they will not be accepted on board. Contact the agency for further information.

11. No, there isn’t any place inside the port where you can leave your vehicle for several days. But not far from it you can find TRAIANO parking (INFO 071-203834), STAMIRA (INFO 071-206511), CIALDINI (INFO 0714-206419) and the parking of ARCHI(INFO 071-2802765).
